Course Purpose:
This course is a skill-building opportunity for students who want to develop a fundamental knowledge of GuardPLC 1600/1800 systems and RSLogix™ Guard PLUS software. You will be introduced to GuardPLC safety standards, functionality and controller circuitry, controller components, and distributed I/O modules.
You will have hands-on opportunities to use RSLogix Guard PLUS software to establish communications with a controller. This course provides you with the resources and hands-on practice required to download a project to a GuardPLC 1600 controller and start a routine.
Who Should Attend:
Individuals who have no or little experience using GuardPLC 1600/1800 controllers should attend this course. Knowledge obtained in this course is required to successfully complete other courses in the GuardPLC curriculum such as:
- GuardPLC 1600/1800 Controller Systems Maintenance and Troubleshooting (Course No. SAF-PLC102)
- GuardPLC 1600/1800 Controller Systems Programming (Course No. SAF-PLC103)
- Understanding the Safety Principles of a GuardPLC System
- Understanding the Functionality of a GuardPLC System
- Identifying GuardPLC 1600/1800 System Components
- Getting Started with RSLogix Guard PLUS Software
- Configuring Communications for a GuardPLC 1600/1800 Controller
- Downloading and Starting the RSLogix Guard PLUS Project
To successfully complete this course, students must be able to perform basic Microsoft Windows® tasks, such as using a mouse, and moving windows.
Experience with industrial control applications is recommended.
Student Materials:
To enhance and facilitate each student's learning experience, the following materials are provided as part of the course package:
- Student Manual, which contains the topical outlines and exercises. Students will use this manual to follow presentations, take notes, and work through the exercises.
- RSLogix Guard PLUS and Guard PLC Procedures Guide, which provides all of the steps required to complete basic RSLogix Guard PLUS software tasks that are common to GuardPLC controllers. By following the procedures in this job aid, students can immediately apply what is learned in the course to their own jobs.
- GuardPLC Documentation Reference Guide, which contains several relevant technical publications. This searchable, electronic resource contains the most frequently referenced information.
Hands-on practice is a necessary part of learning and this course offers hands-on opportunities for fundamental RSLogix Guard PLUS software tasks using a GuardPLC 1600 controller. (The GuardPLC 1800 controller is referred to in the course material, but the GuardPLC 1800 controller is not provided in the demo unit.) The demo unit can be configured to demonstrate the GuardPLC 1600 controller’s pulse-test ability as well as an ISO 13849-1 category 4 E-stop circuit.
In particular, you will gain hands-on practice with going online, downloading, and navigating through RSLogix Guard PLUS software.
Next Learning Level:
Individuals who have little or no experience with maintaining and troubleshooting a GuardPLC controller should consider learning more by completing the following course: GuardPLC 1600/1800 Controller Systems Maintenance and Troubleshooting (Course No. SAF-PLC102).
