Course Purpose:

This course provides you with the necessary resources and hands-on practice to create an RSLogix™ 5000 project for a GuardLogix system. You will be introduced to GuardLogix system hardware and software components, functionality, terminology, and safety standards. You will also gain experience programming safety instructions.

You will have hands-on opportunities to configure CompactBlock™ Guard I/O™ modules. You will use explicit messaging to obtain point status diagnostic data from these modules. Also, you will gain experience sending safety data over an EtherNet/IP™ network using producer and consumer technology. In addition, you will learn how to lock a GuardLogix controller to help protect safety control components from modification.

Topic Outline:
Day 1

• Understanding the Safety Principles of a GuardLogix System
• Identifying GuardLogix System Hardware Components
• Understanding the Functionality of a GuardLogix System
• Creating a New GuardLogix Project Using RSLogix 5000 Software

Day 2

• Configuring CompactBlock Guard I/O Modules for a GuardLogix Project Using RSLogix 5000 Software
• Getting CompactBlock Guard I/O Point Status Information Via Explicit Messaging Using RSLogix 5000 Software
• Programming RSLogix 5000 Ladder Logic within a GuardLogix Safety Task
• Configuring a GuardLogix Controller to Produce and Consume Safety Data over an EtherNet/IP Network
• Configuring GuardLogix Controller Safety Options

Prerequisites:

To successfully complete this course, the following prerequisites are required:

• Ability to perform basic Microsoft® Windows® tasks
• Completion of the Level 3: RSLogix 5000 Development & Programming of ControlLogix Projects (Course No. CCPAUS143)
• General experience with industrial controls

Student Materials
To enhance and facilitate your learning experience, the following materials are provided as part of the course package:

• Student Manual, which contains the topical outlines and exercises. Use this manual to follow presentations, take notes, and work through the exercises.
• GuardLogix Documentation Reference Guide, which contains several relevant technical publications. This searchable, electronic resource contains the most frequently referenced hardware and software information and is a quick and efficient on-the-job resource. Wiring diagrams of the GuardLogix controller and CompactBlock Guard I/O modules are also included.

Hands-On Practice

Throughout the course, you will have the opportunity to practice skills that you have learned through a variety of hands-on exercises. Hands-on practice is necessary for learning skills to give you a working knowledge of GuardLogix systems.

Once you learn the basic components of the system, you will create a working program using RSLogix 5000 software. Specifically, you will program ladder logic using safety instructions and tags, produce and consume data over an EtherNet/IP network, and configure a DeviceNet scanner and CompactBlock™ Guard I/O™ modules. You will also have an opportunity to configure a safety signature and lock the Safety Task with a password.
